Roosevelt French teacher Ms. Graber, also known as Madame Graber, has been working for many years to keep the French language alive. She continues to teach and spread the knowledge of French to as many as she can.
Ms. Graber came to Roosevelt High School after teaching out of state. The school had needed a French teacher and she was willing to take the job. She came to the school in 1995 and has been teaching here ever since.
Ms. Graber decided she wanted to become a French teacher after she met her French teacher, she had admired her teacher so much that she was inspired and wanted to be like her. And as much as she likes teaching the language, she also enjoys spending time with students and watching them grow their knowledge.
She is most proud of her ability to of been able to teach French for so many years. It was not easy though, giving that the perception of French is that the language is too complicated or unnecessary, and that students should learn Spanish instead. She wanted to flip that narrative and make students want to take french, not be scared of it.
While teaching French, she has had the opportunity to travel to France multiple times with and without students. She has been to France around 30 times both for school trips as well as for fun.
Along with teaching French class, during the day she hosts a French club after school to learn about the culture, history, and language while doing fun crafts and activities.
She aims to continue her 29-year career in helping students grow as both learners and people.
