A new year has passed, and we’ll be entering a new semester soon, which means two big things. New electives once the second quarter ends, and finals.
Each teacher’s finals are different, because every class is different. An English class isn’t going to have the same finals as a Geometry class, and Culinary won’t have the same finals as Spanish.
The problem is, due to recent events with ICE, some students are staying home and doing school remotely, and while some finals may be online, a lot of these finals are needed to be completed in person.
So how are the people at home going to do their finals and get their last grade of the quarter?
Well, many teachers are tweaking their finals to better fit current situations. In Ms. Carter’s Biology class, the final revolved around learning about disorders then using the information learned to try and diagnose the correct disorder. The last part of the assignment involves pairing up with a person with a different disorder, and showing each other what they learned about their disorder. Since students are home and not at school, they are given the task to contact someone and partner up with them.
And in French II, the original speaking final has been replaced with an online assignment due to the finals feeling rushed.
During the middle of finals week Roosevelt decided on a new grading solution in order to accomodate for the remote learners and those impacted by the recent events. As of now all grades are frozen and grades on tests, assignments or finals are only able to help your grade and cant bring it down.
Either way, times have been hectic lately, let’s hope the future will be brighter.
